Legacy of Bravery

Honor and glory is reserved for men. This Ofrenda altar is
dedicated to women warriors as their leadership has gone largely
unrecorded. Forensic archeologists have discovered woman
warrior skeletons across all Samurai battlefields (average of 30%).
These 'Onna-Bugeisha' fought alongside the Samurai. European
colonizers were amazed that Native American women were not
subservient to men and lead war parties. The Ahosi of Dahomey
(now Benin) are the only all-female military battalion in human
history. Dutch colonialists feared their astute training and ferocity.
War means women are at risk of being raped, enslaved or killed,
yet female members of the Mexican Zapatistas (Guerreras), the
American Lakota Sioux and the Black Panther Party (which was
70% women & established first ‘Breakfast Program’ in CA) have
fought for justice (even with bare hands against militarized male
soldiers). Countless women have played a vital role in our history;
their legacy and bravery should never be forgotten.
